Tourism That Cares as a company, set aside finance and leverage our relationships with suppliers, in order to give humble local couples, the chance to experience something special, that would normally not fit into their budget. Its another way of giving back into the future families that will take this nation forward.

Here is a little excerpt from a local honeymoon we arranged, from Cape Town heading up the Garden route, and back. All 3 accommodations mentioned are top quality 4 star products, and are highly recommended.
“We got married on the Saturday in a stunning farm setting in the wine country outside Cape Town, and on the Monday we were off to our honeymoon heading eastwards from Cape Town into the famous Klein Karoo semi desert and then down to the Garden Route/ Indian Ocean coastline. It was the week before our nation went into lockdown for Corona Virus, and we felt incredibly fortunate to make the trip before all accommodation’s closed down.

Our first destination was Wildehondekloof Lodge. The great thing for us was that we went far off the beaten track, down a farm road just before Oudtshoorn and deep into a serene and unspoilt valley.

It felt like we were entering something resembling Jurassic Park as we drove through the valley, surrounded by the magnificent Swartberg Mountains. As we arrived at Wildehondekloof Lodge we were amazed at the beautiful well watered vegetation, surrounding us in what is normally a semi arid region.

The lush gardens surrounding the lodge, a vibrant river flowing at the bottom of the lodge and a swimming pool in the middle of the lawn to top it all off. It’s a true oasis, far away from the city lights.

As we arrived a blackboard caught our eye welcoming the newlywed couple to the lodge. The staff was really very friendly and helpful. We felt so spoilt!

Late in the afternoon a herd of beautiful Nyala and Bushbuck grazed on the lawns in front of our room. Sundowner Game drives or a walk on the property, are part of the unwind that this place offers. We truly had a very peaceful and relaxing experience at Wildehondekloof.

It was an incredible place for our first stop, in the middle of nowhere where you can really switch off from life and just rest from all the busyness that life brings.

Our second stop was the Scallop Guest Lodge in Plettenberg Bay, but when we arrived they upgraded us to the honeymoon suite at the Periwinkle Guest Lodge. We felt like celebrities. The Lodge was just opposite the beautiful Robberg beach, with stunning views of the bay, often frequented by dolphins, occasional Orca’s , Humpbacks and even Hammerhead sharks.

Our room had an incredible beach view and just to breathe in the fresh sea breeze from the Indian Ocean, while you relax on the balcony is special.

Our room was luxurious with a stunning bathroom. The food, the presentation, the daily spoils, was something worth remembering. There was an infinity pool overlooking the ocean and its an understatement to say we felt like royalty.

Our last stop was in the seaside hamlet of Wilderness at the Boardwalk Lodge. Set above the town with sweeping views of the Indian Ocean. The accommodation was built into the typical sub tropical vegetation , it felt like we were living in a tree house.

This village with its quirky restaurants, unique markets, built on a lagoon with endless beaches nearby, is a special place. Enjoy a walk into the village, or take a stroll to a waterfall, or hire a kayak to paddle on the Touws river.

The levels of service, the styles of accommodation and the special touches, went way beyond our expectations. A big thank you!”

Dear Partner in travel.

Firstly we want to offer our continued support and empathy to all travellers, travel agencies and clients of ours around the world. Tourism that Cares (including the brands of African Incentive Travel, Luxury Kosher Safari and Luxury African Safari) has gone into a model of cost-cutting,  short time, and working from home office model, until 15 April 2020.

We will maintain connectivity and support our customers globally. Our working hours are from Monday to Friday,  08h30 am till 17h30pm.  GMT+ 2. Please continue to work through your consultant that was servicing your file, and feel free to ask any questions.

In addition, we have adopted the global recommended trend of postponing trips, versus cancelling trips. Each person’s file will be dealt on a case by case scenario, as not all service providers and suppliers are standardised in their response/terms and conditions or cancellation policies.

We have to respect these policies, even if we will try and negotiate cancellation fee reductions aggressively. As a rule, we hope for zero penalties when postponing, and yet, this too can vary.
In the Postponement scenario, most likely you will have a slight increase in price if you are travelling in a different seasonal rate period (eg from low season to high season, or peak season) or if a flight price goes up, but this again is a client by a client process, which we will administrate to the best of our ability.  Changes up to 12 months, within the same rate period/ season period. Eg  May 2020 to May 2021, are most likely to attract the least if any form of a price increase.

If cancellation occurs, there is a general trend of cancellation fees STILL  being levied, especially as you get closer to your time of travel, which is negotiated downward, IF at all possible by us, but not guaranteed.

If you simply have to cancel, and cancellation fees are unavoidable, please ensure you consult with your travel insurance company, before you make your final decision, to see if you are covered based on your unique set of factors.

Hence the strongest recommendation is POSTPONEMENT. 

We hope it will return to normality still in 2020, as reports of medical solutions are popping up in India, Australia and USA, and our cost-cutting measures as a company, in keeping with airlines, hotels, travel agencies etc, who are all staying alive by being frugal and careful, are our modus operandi right now.

There are also measures in place, to maintain a level of contact and service to clients as long as possible, within the current context, framed with the hope that it will pass, and that our key source markets will keep supporting us, in the long term vision of sustainable tourism to Africa,  that Tourism that Cares holds dear to.

Namibia is rated as one of the new up and coming destinations by numerous travel guides and articles. The peak season starts in July and runs to October. But just before that, April to June is a lovely time to enjoy this country’s highlights in what we have dubbed “Namibia’s Secret Season”. 

It’s a lovely time of year, as it cools down from the heat of the summer, into autumn, and the whole country is summed up in 3 major stops on our tour. Sossusvlei: one of the oldest deserts in the world, with incredible canyons and barchan dunes. Swakopmund and Walvis Bay, on the unspoilt Atlantic Ocean coastline renowned for its dolphin, flamingo and seal sightings, as well as 4 x 4 trails to Sandwich Harbour and then we finally end at our 3rd highlight, the 70 000 hectares Erindi Game Reserve, one of the best, if not the best safari experience in all of Namibia. 

Sossusvlei Lodge

Situated at the entrance gate to the Namib Naukluft Park, Sossusvlei Lodge in Namibia offers direct access to the magnificent red sand dunes, the famous pan of Sossusvlei, the blackened trees of Dead Vlei and the exceptional depths of the Sesriem Canyon. Erindi Game Reserve is a gem in the heart of the wild Namibian landscape. The reserve of 70 000ha is situated 40km east of the town of Omaruru.

Old Traders Lodge provides the accommodation at Erindi Private Game Reserve. This impressive lodge comprises the main dining room and viewing deck as well as 35 well-appointed suites that all have views of a water hole. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives throughout the many different ecosystems that the Moremi Game Reserve has to offer or the possibility to explore the Xakanaxa Lagoon and its surrounding channels by boat. Camp Moremi has 12 spacious, modern styled thatched safari tents, including one family room, and accommodates a maximum of twenty-four guests.
