If you are a true explorer and like to “be one with nature” Ehlane Plains Camp offers an intriguing wilderness walking safari with their in-house armed walking guide. Follow the tracks, take in the scent of the herds on the breeze and hear the crunch of the earth under your feet. These guided walks are in the early morning and late evening, before the heat and after the mid-day stillness (when most animals and people take a rest). The educated and experienced guide will fascinate you with their knowledge of local customs, bush- and wildlife-facts, and a story or two of their own wilderness experience. 

The drier southern winter period with low or no rain fall in the region result in wildlife, especially that of elephants, congregating in numbers around the waterholes. During the early spring months of September and October when many of the animals give birth to young ones, predator activity increases and visitors often come across a lion kill.

The excellent road system makes for great viewing of many of the waterholes and pools. Early winter mornings and late afternoon can be chilly when guided game drives are taken on open vehicles making it essential to bring along warm clothing. With exception of the July school holidays the roads and safari camps are less busy during this period.

From October to April the rainfall increases steadily each month and the bush is greener and animals will spread out more amongst the lush bush. During spring wild flowers transform the park into a colourful feast for the eye, making it a photographer’s delight.
